Sheremetyevo’s Terminal B, with a capacity of 20 million passengers per year (or 4.1 thousand passengers per hour) was put into operation while Russia was getting ready for hosting the FIFA World Cup 2018. Specially for the World Cup, all Sheremetyevo terminals were equipped with fan lounges, where travelers could watch live streams of the football games. Terminal B became the first part of the airport’s Northern Terminal Complex.
The total size of the new terminal building is 109.713 thousand square meters.
According to RIA Novosti, Terminal B offers two business lounges, 400 seats each, and one VIP lounge, 1.6 thousand square meters in size.
The new Terminal B uses ZAMAR’s automated self check-in and luggage check-in system, which is aimed at increasing the terminal’s capacity to 4.8 thousand people and luggage items per hour.
Further plans include equipping Terminal B with the iBeacon system, which will allow passengers to navigate the entire airport online.
